From anvil to innovation

GeschichteCompany History - looking back over 200 years. It is 1797 in Mesum. The first record of an entrepreneur in the Upmann family is that of their ancestor, the village blacksmith Stiegemann. It takes the form of an order for "bley am Thurm" (repairs to the steeple) of the church in Mesum. This tradition of craftsmanship carries forward for many generations..

Until 1938 when Bernhard Upmann, nephew of the original proprietor Theodor Stiegemann, takes over management of the company. After WWII, he concentrates completely on
2. machine construction, and since 1954 focusses mainly on weighing and packaging systems technology.

The big breakthrough comes in 1966 with a patented idea – a "machine for filling, sealing and separating the bags from a continuous bag band comprised of a roll of plastic sheeting.“ Thus begins a long line of successes for Upmann packaging machines.

Today Upmann counts among the leading German companies in the industry and can still be found at the original location in Mesum.
